Looking for some social metaverse games to play with friends on different platforms? Well, look no further. I’m about to give you a list of games I’ve personally tried and found to be not only social and multiplayer, but cross-platform, too.

1 Spatial.io
Spatial is a cross-platform multiplayer gaming experience allowing users to socialize and experience creative games developed by other users. This means you can create your own video games integrated directly on the Spatial platform. Spatial uses a little more advanced gaming technology involving Unity as an initial gaming development software. You can also use Blender, a free 3D development software to create 3D environments for your stage, game, or social metaverse experience for Spatial.
Bonus: It has several integration features for importing media and logging in/creating an account. Google Drive, Slack, Figma, OneDrive, Microsoft365, OpenSea, and MetaMask.

2 Rec Room
Rec Room is an online multiplayer game enjoyed by 23,000,000 users a month or 760,000 users a day, as reported in 2023 by Sacra.com. Rec Room can be explained as a cross-platform game development platform, giving users the ability to develop their own games directly on the platform. Users can also subscribe to Rec Room Plus and enjoy benefits like creating and selling user-generated content for in-game tokens, which in turn are worth real world money.

Minecraft is a sandbox game which means you can build, interact, and design with your own goals in mind, and no predetermined goals, since you create them yourself. It's truly a one-of-a-kind game that you'll need to experience to understand for yourself. You can join online game servers and play with other players or play alone. Minecraft initially has survival aspects where you have enemies present and need to defend yourself from them. There is a creative mode where it takes away these aspects and allows you to create what you desire using the blocks Minecraft is most famous for.

4 Roblox
Roblox is another cross-platform multiplayer game with lots of user-generated content. You can play and experience various games made by different gamers-turned-developers who can use their PCs to make engaging video games for users to play, right on the Roblox platform. Lots of popular games on Roblox are created by users like you. According to DemandSage, Roblox has 70,200,000 daily users, coming in at 216,000,000 monthly active users. Also there are 40,000,000 games and experiences made by users, all directly on the Roblox game platform.
You can charge monthly subscriptions to your users and sell them access to items and abilities in the game, as well as place in-game advertisements to your users.

5 VRChat
The virtual reality metaverse's beloved VR social app, VRChat, is available across a few platforms, including your desktop PC and Mac, along with VR consoles and platforms. You're able to wear custom skins, or customized user-generated 3D avatars within the game. Believe it or not, VRChat has the ability to host a variety of virtual nightclubs and socializing meetup spots. Some discretion is advised for parents of young gamers, as there are varied adult themes across the platform such as stripclubs and dating aspects of certain experiences geared at 18+ users.

6 Meta Horizon Workrooms (Beta)
Meta, the parent company to Facebook and the maker of the Quest virtual reality headsets, created several platforms, one of them being cross-platform intended for work and meetings among collegues, co-workers, entrepreneurs, and friends. You can host virtual meetings and share your laptop screen with those within the meeting. You can have up to 16 people in the meeting in VR, while having a max number of 50 overall members active and live in the meeting.
