"Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn; if your girl starts acting up, then you take her friend"

Accredited as the first major successful rap record in history, The Sugarhill Gang is from Englewood, New Jersey. The group was named after the Harlem, New York neighborhood in which their record label Sugar Hill Records was formed by husband-wife-duo Joe & Sylvia Robinsonwith funding from the owners of Roulette Records.

The Sugarhill Gang is a Rap trio who performed the song "Rapper's Delight" over the instrumental to "Good Times" by Chic. It's considered an interpolation which means a replaying of the beat instead of a sample, however Sugar Hill Records was sued by Chic for copyright infringement. An undisclosed amount was reached, and songwriting credit was given to Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards.

The song reached number 4 on US R&B charts.
