Jaden Smith’s appointment as the first Men’s Creative Director for Christian Louboutin in September 2025 was a complete, revolutionary AND evolutionary, game-changing moment for the Maison, marking the first time in its history that it named an official creative director other than Christian Louboutin himself.

The foundation wasn’t just a sudden business deal; it was personal. Jaden and Christian Louboutin first met in 2019, developing a relationship off mutual respect for each other’s individuality, according to VMAN. Louboutin was reportedly struck by Jaden’s “thoughtful awareness of the world” and his commitment to a more conscious future. This long-term dialogue eventually crystallized into the formal role.

While Louboutin has had a men’s line for over 15 years, it has historically been managed by Christian Louboutin himself. By 2025, the men’s category grew to represent roughly 24% of the brand’s business. To push that figure toward a goal of 30%+, the brand sought a “transversal personality” who could bridge the gap between traditional luxury and Gen Z/Millennial culture.

Contrary to the “celebrity face” narrative, the appointment was pitched as a move for a working creative. Jaden brought nearly ten years of experience in shoe collaborations (notably with New Balance) and his own fashion label, MSFTSrep. His background in music, activism, and visual arts, which allowed the brand to expand beyond product into “immersive experiences” and “emotional universes.”

Jaden’s influence became visible with his Fall/Winter 2026 debut at Paris Fashion Week in January 2026. The collection was noted for the “Louboutin Red” saturation; Smith famously painted his face and torso red for the collection’s teasers and presentation. Smith reimagined classics with new experiential silhouettes, introducing fur-fraught brogues, “wet paint” Chelsea boots, and technical, waterproof footwear like the TCT I. Rather than a standard runway, he used a giant, metallic red ceramic human head as an exhibition space, mapping the collection as “thoughts from his mind.”

His initial step up to men’s Creative Director sparked debate regarding celebrity vs. technical expertise, as usual, but of course based in the lack of research into Jaden Smith, who he is, and what he represents. The Maison has defended the choice as a “calculated risk” to modernize the brand’s DNA through Jaden’s specific, cosmic-inspired lens.
